0004 – Recommended Podcasts
The last few weeks have been a disappointment in so far as I haven't really been able to work on my programming.
However, even when not explicitly learning I am always reading blogs and websites related to programming and technology as well as listening to many podcasts on the topic. The following is a list of podcasts I listen to that I would recommend for anyone in a position like mine trying to learn as much as possible. List is alphabetical:
- Accidental Tech Podcast: The famous Marco, John, Casey trio talk all things Apple and sometimes cars.
- Bitsplitting: Currently in hiatus, the first season is still worth listening to and features interviews with people from around the tech industry.
- Core Intuition: Hosts Daniel Jalkut and Manton Reece have a chat about current trends in indie Apple development.
- Debug: Guy English and Rene Ritche get into the weeds on programming.
- iOhYes: Their own description says it all – "A podcast by iOS developers, for iOS developers."
- Iterate: Rather than programming this podcast focuses on software design.
- Melton: Don Melton was the head of the Safari team at Apple and now in retirement writes video transcoding software. He's a riot to listen to and has plenty of opinions as well as war stories from his time at Apple.
- Mobile Couch: Ben Trengrove and Daniel Farrelly choose excellent topics to cover in the mobile development space.
- More Than Just Code: A great weekly chat about mobile development.
- The Record: Also currently on hiatus, but with a fantastic Season 1 covering the history of Seattle Before the iPhone.
- Release Notes: A weekly podcast about the business of development. Explicitly talking about everything but the code.
- Under the Radar: The newest show of the bunch, it is an always-less-than-30-minute combination of _David Smith's show Developing Perspective and Marco's old show Build and Analyze.
The nice thing about keeping up with these shows is that even in crazy times where I have to put a pause on explicitly teaching myself programming, I'm able to listen and keep my mind in this world. A big thank you to all the people involved in making these shows!
